The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center.

...THE CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS
ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS: CHUGACH STATE
PARK, GIRDWOOD, PORTAGE, TURNAGAIN PASS, SUMMIT LAKE, MOOSE PASS,
AND SEWARD FROM 3AM SUNDAY THROUGH 3AM MONDAY...

* WHAT...The backcountry avalanche danger is HIGH. Very dangerous
avalanche conditions exist.

* WHERE...For the Western Chugach and Kenai Mountains in and
around Chugach State Park, Girdwood, Portage, Turnagain Pass,
Summit Lake, Lost Lake, and Seward.

* WHEN...In effect Sunday 3:00 AM AKST through Monday 3:00 PM
AKST.

* IMPACTS...Heavy snowfall and strong winds will create widespread
areas of unstable snow. Both human-triggered and natural large
avalanches are likely. Debris from avalanches above may run into
valley bottoms. Avalanche conditions will remain very dangerous
immediately after the snow finishes.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in avalanche
terrain is NOT recommended. Backcountry travelers should stay
off of...and out from underneath...slopes steeper than 30
degrees. Avalanches may run long distances.

Similar avalanche danger may exist outside the coverage area of
this or any avalanche center.

Details:
* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall and snow melt at lower elevations with frozen ground.

* WHERE...The following areas, Anchorage, East Turnagain Arm,
Matanuska Valley and Western Prince William Sound.

* WHEN...Until noon AKST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 143 PM AKST, Moderate to Heavy rain has fallen at lower
elevations from the Mat-Su Valley down through the southern
Kenai Peninsula overnight and into Sunday. This combined with
frozen ground is causing ponding and localized flooding along
roads and low lying areas.

Localized flooding has been reported in Palmer, areas of
Anchorage and near Seward Harbor.

Small streams in the area may also experience minor flooding
with ice still intact in many areas.  No flooding is expected
along large Rivers.

A small landslide was report and cleared from the Lowell
Point Road Sunday morning. Additional localized landslides
are possible at lower elevations.

- If you live near or along area creeks and streams stay alert and
be prepared to take action.
- Storm drains should be kept clear of debris as much as possible.
- Be aware of surroundings and avoid driving on flooded roads if
possible.
